A Moment for Reflection

We haven't had very many moments for reflection lately; never has this blog's title been quite so appropriate. Adventure indeed: we moved, Granna and Pap Pap arrived 4 days later, we unpacked, I worked, we traveled for my ordination (!), we unpacked and worked a bit more, Elias was baptized (with all grandparents, his three godparents, two of Asa's three godparents, and various friends in attendance/at the house) and Granna and Pap Pap left.  All in under three weeks.  And it's been wonderful and it's been full of laughter and it's been insane and it's been exhausting and it's been wonderful.  Yes, double wonderful.

And now the house is quiet.

The boys are asleep, in their new room.  The new noises of the new house don't bother them at all.  M. is picking up a few more things at the hardware store.  I'm figuring out our new insurance, new prescription coverage, new doctors, new car insurance/registration/licenses.

The house is quiet, just about for the first time since we moved in.

At some point, it's bound to hit me that we live here, for real and forever.  We're not just renting here, we're not temporary guests.  We're putting down roots, more intentionally than ever before, in this place that we've chosen, and that has chosen us.  It's a hard thing to wrap my head around such a huge concept, especially after those long weeks of commuting, when I still had one foot in each town.  It's strange to accept that a dream has become reality, especially when we haven't really had time to sit quietly and let it all sink in.

For us, that is.  For the boys, right now, it's all about exuberant joy.  Which is why I take these moments of quiet whenever they come, to be savored.
