Baptism

Just a couple of preliminary photos from Pap Pap's camera, since Mummy was a little busy to be taking pictures...

With the godparents, at the church.

He's wearing his great-great grandfather's christening gown (also worn by his great-grandfather and his first cousin), and wore Mommy's christening cap, although it didn't stay on his head long enough to have his picture taken.  Asa was so good throughout the service - barely a peep through church, the outpouring of love afterwards, and even through lunch.

With the grandparents and great-aunt, after lunch.

It was such a great time, with so many loving people around.  We feel so lucky.

Granna and Pap Pap

In other words, the Paparazzi have arrived!

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I ended up with very few pictures on my camera from the past few days... Mostly, they're on Pap Pap's.  Hmm.  Going to have to remedy that!

Zoo Trip!

Asa's first trip to our local zoo!

Asa with the lemurs...

A lemur.

Asa with the lions.

Asa with the red kangaroos.

Asa in the rainforest enclosure.

This is where the zoo trip almost became more educational than we'd quite intended.  A pair of birds fluttered over the barrier, and the zookeeper mentioned that they do that to mate.  hrm.

Meanwhile, the snake was being fed - if you look carefully in the top corner, you can see the dead mouse being presented by said zookeeper.  All the realities of life in one enclosure.

A sign we don't need quite yet, but probably will someday.  Meanwhile, it cracked us up.

Provincetown 9/17/09

Of course we had to bring him out there!  I mean, really.  It was too windy for a whale watch, but it was a lovely day.

Its nice to still be able to go out to lunch with our little guy - he's pretty good about sleeping through lunch, tho we're still working on dinner.

Not being able to go on a whale watch doesn't mean we couldn't see Dennis.  It was a lovely visit, with much more chance to talk than we usually get.

By the end of the day it was gray and chilly, so we headed back into a warm car.

All snuggled and bundled and warm.

He fussed a bit on the drive home, including requiring a diaper change about 20 minutes down the road.  Because it was raining, this meant changing him on my lap in the backseat.  Inevitably, it was a messy operation - there must be a better way!  But it was a great day that we hope to be able to repeat soon.  (Without as much mess.)

In Memoriam

Asa, let us tell you the story of the woman with golden hair and a golden voice, who devoted herself to making this world a more just place.

Mary Travers, 1936-2009.  We will miss you.

Like Mommy like Son

Grandma found these right after Asa's birth.  Guess we'll never doubt at least half of his parentage... ;)

Good thing that Grandma dated Mommy's pictures, isn't it?

Remember this guy?
No longer!  After one month, Asa is nearly eight pounds, a champion eater and a devoté of tummy time.
Happy One Month, little boy!!
